Being a good stylist is not only about being able to identify what’s cute; it’s about being able to identify what looks good on you and what looks good on your client. Hanger appeal or lack there of can really deter people from buying things that unbeknownst to them are perfect for their body type or for their personal style.
I always crave newness, but newness that can coordinate with either the preppy Elle woods, the graphic streetwear, or wannabe glam punk sides of my closet
I will wait a long time before investing in a trend. It is to the point where it might not actually be trendy anymore by the time I get into it, but that’s when I have decided that it’ll last in my closet. I find myself donating raggedy staple pieces more than I do the trendy pieces.
Does anyone remember when neon green blew up the summer of 2019?
Color trends are some of the most dangerous but easy to over consume with. I recently got rid of all of my neon green apparel not because i gorged myself on it in 2019 but because the only 3 pieces i kept for four years slowly faded into the background as costume pieces that i was only holding onto for a possible themed party or halloween event. It was not part of my core style values anymore, despite how much as i wore them last year.
Part of what was instrumental in curating my personal wardrobe is figuring out what colors I will like year round. My parents were convivnced i would grow out of my pink phase, but when I moved and I had full autonomy over my bedroom walls again, guess what color i chose? Pink, and 7 years later i dont regret it.
You can operate the same way in fashion, its only more daunting because its public facing, but your home is private. Personal style can be a subversive topic, which is one of the reasons my blog used to be styleversive once upon a time.
I don’t care about the trends because there’s never been one I’ve seen that fits all lifestyles unless it’s a very basic neutral color and silhouette. All the other ones like mesh skin tie marble friend expose seam tops sit the pallet of someone with a very eccentric lifestyle and taste in art. I might honestly be that in that demographic but my mood changes quicker than micro trends can keep up with and it is exactly that reason why I don’t give in immediately.
